PVC Walker Prototype

It only took an infected cat bite injury and the idea of a missed opportunity for me to finally produce a prototype for a walker.

Design Details

PVC pipe is a sturdy, cheap material that can be repurposed for this build. It is also easily accessible, in case a replacement part is needed. For this walker, I ordered a set of kids’ training wheels from Amazon, as well as a harness to work off of. Velcro strapping was attached to the harness in order to keep the structure in place (while still remaining removable for washing of the harness). Multiple measurements were taken to determine the pipe lengths and attachment lengths.

Modifications

Several modifications were made to the initial design, and you can see how that has affected the final product, as the wheels should be placed a little further back on the body. As well, there should be a bigger distance between the rear of the animal and the bar that runs behind it.

In the case that a client is needing a walker to be made into a wheelchair, simple adjustments can be made. Hind support can easily be added to this build, as well as stirrups for the back legs.
